Yorkshire and North East Eventers League results announced The Yorkshire and North East Eventers League (Y&NEEL) results have been released.
The league, a points based competition run across British Eventing Affiliated events in Yorkshire and the North East, aims to raise the profile of the sport in the region and provides generous cash prizes to the winners. BE Steward, Sue Stewart, presented the prizes at a ceremony at Askham Bryan.
Ellie Jolliffe, a 13 year old in her first season eventing, heads a line-up of winners all of whom are under the age of 25. Ellie, from Tadcaster in North Yorkshire, won the BE90 section on her own 13 year old mare The Welsummer.
The BE100 section was won by Sara Bowe, 23, on Amelia Owen’s Ricardo Breez. She was also runner up in the novice section on Sea Lark and Amelia received the owner’s trophy. Sara has just completed her first season running her own event yard in Bedale, North Yorkshire and has been producing Ricardo Breez to sell as Amelia has recently begun working in London.
James Sommerville, 24, won the novice section on Katherine Heslop’s Gina Van de Neerheide, who clocked up four novice wins and two seconds. James took the reins on the seven year old mare whilst Katherine, an event rider herself, had her second baby. The mare has now been sold to Irish junior Shannon Nelson. James was also runner up in the intermediate section on Paul Crompton’s Arco BB.
Emma Pybus, 22, from Corbridge in Northumberland, won the intermediate section on her own Fernhill in Action. She clinched the title after a win at Aske, just before she got on a plane to Shanghai in China to begin an internship with a financial analyst. Emma is the daughter of Hexham and Belsay organisers Jane and Edward Pybus, who collected the award on her behalf.
